Midland Atelier is located in the heart of the historic Midland Railway Workshops and is Western Australia’s first hub for creativity and design innovation.
Midland Atelier is a long-term project developed and managed by FORM in partnership with the Midland Redevelopment Authority (MRA). Blending creative talent, historic infrastructure, quality artistic programming and community engagement, the Atelier, once complete, will provide a platform for trans-disciplinary creative practice.
Literally meaning ‘workshop’ or ‘studio’, Midland Atelier is home to Australian and international designers working across creative mediums from photography to furniture design. The facility will ultimately accommodate a broader range of studios, each housed in an original Railway Workshop building, and is being developed in stages:
- The Pattern Shop studio for furniture and object design (established)
- Nurses Post office (established)
- The Foundry mixed studios (in progress)
- The Foundry Digital Media Hub (in progress)
- Mainline: Regional Creative Development Studio (in progress)
- Mainline: Metals studio and foundry for large scale sculpture (in progress)
- The Water Tower creative residency and education studio (in progress)
Through the mixing of creative skills, disciplines and programs, Midland Atelier will become an environment of learning, ideas, exchange and innovation.
